Playboy Enterprises’ income soared 217% to $1.7 million in its first quarter, attributable mainly to a significant improvement in the operating performance of the Publishing Group, most notably Playboy magazine. The Chicago company said significant reductions in direct costs of Playboy magazine also contributed to the improvement. Revenue was down 3.7% to $38.8 million.
