Gibson Had Murray Swinging and Missing

I was shocked to read the following statement by Jim Murray: “(Bob) Gibson, who posted the lowest single-season earned-run average in baseball history--1.12--in 1968 . . . “
How many readers wrote to point out that Dutch Leonard had an ERA of 1.01 in 1914, Mordecai Brown had 1.04 in 1906 and Walter Johnson posted a 1.09 in 1913?
However, it’s nice to know that Jim is human, after all. Even on the few occasions when he gets his facts wrong, he’s a fascinating writer.
