Doug Smith and Roy Knickman finished one-two in the 92-mile second stage of the Whiskey Creek Stage Race at Mammoth Lakes, Calif., and retained the top two places overall in the five-stage cycling event.
Smith, of ICN, won the second stage, although he and Knickman were given identical times of 3 hours 41 minutes 5 seconds. Knickman, of Toshiba/Look, leads Smith by 40 seconds in the overall standings.
Tricia Walters of 7-Eleven won in the women’s division as she and 10 others were given times of 2:56:17 for the 64-mile second stage. Prologue winner Meg Gordon of Chemical Bank retained her overall lead at 3:17:19, 1 minute 52 seconds ahead of Walters.
