YNGWIE LIVES

In the June 23, 1987, issue of the Los Angeles Times, Metro section, was a photograph of an automobile accident in Woodland Hills--the caption beneath it stated that one of the seriously injured victims was Yngwie Malmsteen.

I was somewhat surprised that it did not mention that Malmsteen is a rock star, or heavy-metal guitarist, or even musician. But, on reflection, I realized that not everyone writing for your paper would necessarily be aware of that.

However, as days passed by, I searched The Times for up-dates on his condition to no avail. It would seem to me that your pop music critics would have noted your coverage of the accident and realized who was involved. Don’t these people read the Los Angeles Times?

Please, let us see some mention of his current condition in the pages of your newspaper.

Woodland Hills

Malmsteen, who suffered a concussion in a traffic accident June 22 in Woodland Hills, is still undergoing light physical therapy as an out-patient at Northridge Hospital, where he spent two weeks after the accident. According to a PolyGram Records spokeswoman, he expects to begin work on his next album in mid-August. He will be with Dio and others at a benefit concert Aug. 1 at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, though it is uncertain whether he will be able to perform.
