NOW Head Suggests: Consider Impeachment

WASHINGTON — Eleanor Smeal, National Organization for Women president, said today Congress should consider impeaching President Reagan for bringing “disgrace and dishonor to the Constitution” in the Iran- contra scandal.
In a speech at the National Press Club, Smeal also referred to the nomination of Robert H. Bork to the Supreme Court, saying “The conventional wisdom that Ronald Reagan should be allowed to quietly serve out his term is wrong. Rather than the Senate Judiciary Committee preparing for hearings on a reactionary nomination, the House Judiciary Committee should prepare hearings to investigate impeachment.”
