AIDS Deaths Top Cancer in N.Y.

NEW YORK — AIDS replaced cancer as the leading cause of death among women between the ages of 25 and 34 in New York City last year, city officials said today.
Health Department figures also showed that acquired immune deficiency syndrome continued to be the No. 1 killer of men between the ages of 25 to 44, as it was in 1985. Health Department spokesman Sam Friedman said 186 young women died of AIDS in 1986, 63 more than died from all types of cancer.
