Simi Valley’s Voges Advances in State Amateur

PEBBLE BEACH — Mitch Voges of Simi Valley, who tied for second after 54 holes of stroke play at the 76th California Amateur Golf Championship, is among 32 qualifiers who begin match play this morning.
Voges, who shot a 3-over 220 to finish one stroke off the pace shared by three co-leaders, meets Greg Starkman of Beverly Hills in the first round of match play.
Other Valley-area golfers qualifying for match play include James Kim of Van Nuys, who opens with Jeff Burda of Modesto. Wayne Tyni of Van Nuys meets Mike Chapman of Seaside and Richard Greenwood of Encino plays Dave Sheff of San Marino in other first-round matches today.
