Lasken State Amateur Medalist in Playoff

PEBBLE BEACH — Bobby Lasken of Whittier made an eight-foot birdie putt on the second hole of a playoff Wednesday to win medalist honors in the 76th California Amateur golf tournament.
Defending champion Terrence Miskell of Salinas failed to qualify for match play.
The 32 survivors of the three qualifying rounds begin match play today on the Pebble Beach course. Miskell shot an eight-over-par 80 for a 233.
The cut was at 229.
Lasken, who will be a senior at UCLA this fall, Tim Loustalot of Santa Cruz and Steve Bogan of Placentia tied in qualifying with 54-hole totals of 219.
Lasken and Loustalot parred the first playoff hole, with Bogan taking a bogey.
