The American Medical Assn. endorsed several measures to keep the Medicare system effective and afloat, but reiterated its position that the federal program is doomed without major reforms. “It’s pretty clear something needs to be done now, but at the same time we don’t believe Medicare can be fixed as such,” said Dr. Jerald Schenken, an AMA trustee. At its annual meeting in Chicago, the AMA’s 406-member House of Delegates also approved a resolution calling on states to lower drunken driving blood-alcohol levels from 0.1% to 0.05%.
