El Monte : Police Foot Patrols to Start
The Police Department will begin its ninth summer park program Monday, in which officers patrol parks on foot in an effort to bring the community and police closer together.
The program is a modern counterpart to the neighborhood officer who walked a beat, said Police Chief Wayne Clayton. He said the program is successful because it takes officers out of their squad cars and brings them closer to the people.
Officers generally patrol in pairs but do not have a schedule of what parks will be visited.
