An RTD bus driver has been sentenced to 45 days in jail after pleading no contest to a charge of hit-and-run driving stemming from a 1986 accident in which her bus ran over a 55-year-old man in the Los Feliz area. Cathy Stanley Miles, 38, of Pasadena was also ordered to perform 100 hours of community service and spend 36 months on summary probation by Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Robert Sandoval. Killed in the accident was Douglas L. Caldwell, who was drunk and had been denied permission to board the bus. When Miles shut the doors and drove away, Caldwell fell under the vehicle’s right wheels, suffering a crushed lung and eight broken ribs, authorities said. Miles, according to an RTD spokesman, has been on an unsalaried leave of absence since the accident and is now subject to a hearing regarding her future employment.
