The Nation : Probe of Meese Ties Asked

The chairmen of the Senate and House Judiciary committees have asked independent counsel James McKay whether he has the authority to expand his criminal investigation to Atty. Gen. Edwin Meese III’s involvement with Wedtech Corp., a defense contractor. In a letter to McKay, who is investigating the lobbying activities of former White House aide Lyn Nofziger on behalf of Wedtech, Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) and Rep. Peter W. Rodino Jr. (D-N.J.) noted Meese’s intercession on behalf of the company while he was White House counselor five years ago. McKay is expected to respond to the letter Monday.
