Two West Hollywood sheriff’s deputies fought a suspected arson fire with a hand-held extinguisher until Fire Department help could arrive. Deputies Kevin Cambra and William Axelrod were flagged down by a cab driver who told them there was a fire in an alley behind 7864 Santa Monica Blvd. When the deputies arrived they found a trash pile and the rear wall of the Eagle Bar ablaze. They radioed for help and then fought the blaze until county firefighters arrived. Cause of the fire is being investigated by the sheriff’s arson bureau. Loss estimates were not immediately available.
