MiraCosta, Mesa Take Track Titles

OCEANSIDE — MiraCosta and Mesa colleges dominated the men’s and women’s competition in the Pacific Coast Conference Championships at MiraCosta College Friday. MiraCosta won the men’s competition with 208 points, and Mesa placed second with 195. Mesa won the women’s competition with 209 points, and MiraCosta was second at 179.
The meet included the five San Diego County community colleges.
Nichelle Strachan of Grossmont College was the meet’s only triple winner. Strachan won the 100 meters in 12.5 seconds, the 200 in 25.6 and the long jump with a mark of 18-4 1/2. In the men’s competition, Cedric Gillis of San Diego City College was the only double winner, taking the 100 in 10.7 and the 200 in 21.8.
In both the men’s and women’s competition, San Diego City College was third, Grossmont fourth and Southwestern fifth.
