Local News in Brief : Howard Nominated to Coastal Commission

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors nominated Burbank City Councilwoman Mary Lou Howard and two other area politicians Tuesday to fill a vacancy on the state Coastal Commission.
The board’s other nominees were Lakewood Councilwoman Jacqueline Rynerson and Redondo Beach Councilman Ron Cawdrey. Supervisors Mike Antonovich, Ed Edelman and Deane Dana endorsed the three nominees, while Supervisor Pete Schabarum voted against the nominations.
Howard is among seven applicants vying for the vacancy, which will be filled by the Senate Rules Committee. The selection is expected within the next few weeks.
Other contenders are Redondo Beach Mayor Barbara Doerr, Newport Beach Councilwoman Ruthelyn Plummer, Cypress City Councilman John Kanel and Huntington Beach Councilman Peter M. Green.
