Sales From Doheny Library
I am an art dealer. I buy and sell rare objects, yet I am appalled to see a public holding split up and placed on the market! I am ashamed that this “whole” body of history is to be cut up.
The Doheny Library is one of the finest legacies of literature and historic typography ever assembled. It is a time capsule that preserves in organized completeness five centuries of thought, progress and technology.
Where shall we get another when it is so greedily consumed? The money will quickly be gone. It took them a lifetime to ferret out these special volumes. It took hard-earned money spent not on themselves, but for us, the public.
