Saying she is concerned over possible courtroom outbursts by Night Stalker suspect Richard Ramirez, a Los Angeles Municipal Court judge has reaffirmed her order to bar television cameras from his Feb. 24 preliminary hearing. Judge Candace D. Cooper said she believes that behavior similar to Ramirez’ earlier shout of “Hail Satan” at his arraignment could jeopardize his right to a fair trial. “To the extent that the presence of the (cameras) may encourage some type of behavior that may interfere with a fair trial, I exercise my prerogative (to close the hearing to cameras),” Cooper said. Attorneys for the Radio and Television News Assn. said they will appeal.
