Fullerton : Planners to Weigh Use Permit for Sikh Temple
- Share via
City planners on Wednesday are expected to consider a request for a conditional-use permit to convert a single-family home on Orangethorpe Avenue into a Sikh temple, associate planner John Godlewski( said.
The site for the proposed temple is a vacant house at 1400 W. Orangethorpe Ave., near the intersection with Basque Avenue. Although the house, built in 1915, is not designated as a local landmark, it is listed in the city register as a “significant property” because of its architectural importance, Godlewski said.
He said converting the house into a temple requires a conditional-use permit because the area is zoned for single-family homes.
The proposal was submitted by the Sikh Society of Southern California, a religious organization that originated in India.
