Two UCLA signees who are outstanding left-handed pitchers and potential first-round draft choices in June showed off their powerful arms on Tuesday.
Hunter Virant of Camarillo threw a no-hitter in a 1-0 Pacific View League victory over Oxnard. He struck out four and walked one in improving to 6-2. Last week, Virant had a no-hitter for 6 2/3 innings against Oxnard Pacifica.
‘He pitched well today,’ Coach Richard Jaquez said.
Camarillo and Oxnard are tied for first place in league with 8-2 record.
Another left-hander, Max Fried of Studio City Harvard-Westlake, struck out eight, walked one and allowed two hits in a 3-1 victory over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
Harvard-Westlake is 17-3-1 and 5-1-1 in the Mission League. Jack Morello struck out seven for Notre Dame.
A third UCLA signee, James Kaprielian of Irvine Beckman, threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in his team’s 1-0 win over Northwood.
