Football: Oaks Christian players to walk to Westlake

Oaks Christian Coach Bill Redell has decided to start a new tradition. His players will walk to their Marmonte League game on Thursday night at Westlake in their travel sweats escorted by students and fans.

It’s about a half mile between the two schools. Redell said he got the idea from Westlake Coach Jim Benkert.

Of course, if Oaks Christian loses, Redell will have a good excuse to say his players got tired in their pre-game walk.

I’m more concerned about how the 70-year-old Redell is going to make the walk himself.

‘I’m going to give it a shot,’ Redell said. ‘I’ll have my wife follow behind in a car.’
