In the small schools matchup at Saturday’s Pangos Dream Classic, it was La Verne Lutheran coming up big in the first half. The Trojans raced to a 20-3 lead in the first quarter and enjoy a commanding 44-18 advantage over Brentwood at halftime at Long Beach City College.

Lutheran returns four starters from last year’s Southern Section Division V championship squad, including 6-foot-6 junior forward Jordan Salley, who is leading the way with 10 points so far. Brentwood lost 10 seniors from last year’s team and returns only one starter.

Senior captain Matt Kussman scored six first-half points for the outmanned Eagles.

Both teams entered the game with subpar records, Lutheran at 5-6 and Brentwood at 1-7, but each has played a tough schedule consisting primarily of much larger schools.

Keep checking back for updates throughout the day.
