BCS championship: Times staffers pick a winner (sort of)

We have a draw when it comes to picking a winner of tonight’s Bowl Championship Series title game at the Rose Bowl.

The Times has eight reporters, columnists and editors at the game, and picking a winner was a 4-4 split. Here are our predictions on the outcome:

Kevin Baxter: Alabama, 27-17

Ben Bolch: Texas, 21-17

Chris Dufresne: Texas, 21-19

Bill Dwyre: Texas, 23-14

Chris Foster: Alabama, 24-17

Mike Hiserman: Texas, 20-16

Gary Klein: Alabama, 24-17

Bill Plaschke: Alabama, 28-10

Mike Hiserman is former Sports editor of the Los Angeles Times. He wrote for the Long Beach Press Telegram and Orange County Register before joining The Times in 1982 and won an Associated Press Sports Editors award for investigative reporting on betting scams. Hiserman has been Sports editor of The Times’ San Fernando Valley and Orange County editions. He retired in November 2020.
