Rick Perry may be making a run for president without a spot on the Iowa Straw Poll ballot. But Stephen Colbert has figured out a way for the Texas governor to take the Hawkeye State despite the absence of an official slot: with a write-in campaign.
The “Colbert Report” host has produced his first campaign ad from the Super PAC he recently created. Or, rather, it’s a parody of campaign ads, with doomsday talk about Iowa carpetbaggers, several food-porn shots (of corn) and a knock on the idea of — what else? — Super PACs.
Mainly it suggests that Iowans should use their ballots Saturday to write in Perry’s name — but replacing the ‘e’ with an ‘a’ so that Colbert’s Super PAC doesn’t align itself with a political candidate (and also to support America).
The ad comes as part of Colbert’s nonpartisan but procastinatory Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow group, and it’s likely to get plenty of attention on his Comedy Central show.
And to think: Herman Cain, all this could have been yours.
