A 3-year-old girl waiting at a bus stop with her parents was killed Saturday afternoon and her father critically injured when they were hit by a car in Orange.
The driver of a Kia Soul told investigators he was going south on Tustin Street south of Taft Avenue about 3:30 p.m. when he swerved into oncoming lanes to miss a car that had cut him off, Orange Police Sgt. Fred Lopez said. When the driver swerved a second time to avoid traffic in the northbound lanes, he ran onto the curb and hit the bus stop.
The child was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The father is in critical condition in a medically induced coma but is expected to survive. The girl’s mother was not injured. Nor was the driver, 29, or his 5-year-old son, a passenger in the car.
Lopez said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
